Kate Ballard, B.S.N., R.N.

  • DNP Student | OHSU Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Kate Ballard was a primary advocate for OR SB 698 and NV AB 177, which require Oregon and Nevada pharmacies to translate prescription labels for patients with limited English proficiency. During these sessions, she lobbied dozens of legislators, gave numerous testimonies, and formed political strategy. She has testified for other successful healthcare laws in Oregon, including SB 554 (safe firearm storage) and HB 3379 (crib bumper pad ban). She recently co-founded the Doernbecher Child Health Policy and Advisory Committee (DPAC) with Dr. Ben Hoffman.

  • Director | Oregon Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Needs (OCCYSHN)
  • Dr. Ben Hoffman is a nationally recognized expert in child passenger safety, and leader in the field of community health advocacy training for pediatric residents. He is the President-Elect of the AAP, Director of OCCYSHN, and co-founder of DPAC. Dr. Hoffman practices as a Pediatrician at OHSU, and remains very active in child health policy and community advocacy.

Representative Travis Nelson, B.S.N., R.N.

  • Representative Travis Nelson was appointed to represent HD 44 (Portland) in January 2022, becoming the first Black LGBTQIA+ member of the Oregon Legislature. His priorities include healthcare reform, labor rights, climate change mitigation, and much more. Representative Nelson is also a registered nurse and has worked in a variety of settings including emergency, critical care, and medical-surgical. He is the former vice president of Oregon Nurses Association, and is an active member of the Sierra Club, Oregon Coalition of Black Trade Unionists, and the NAACP.

Representative Rachel Prusak, M.S.N., A.P.R.N., F.N.P.-C.

  • Representative Prusak is an FNP who has served elderly, homebound patients for more than 20 years. She was elected to the Oregon Legislature in 2018 and is currently the Chair of the House Health Care Committee and a member of the Economic Recovery & Prosperity Committee. Among her many achievements are increased prescription drug cost transparency, commonsense gun legislation, and record investments in public education.

Representative Lisa Reynolds, M.D.

  • Representative Lisa Reynolds joined the Oregon Legislature in 2020, representing House District 36 (Portland’s West Side). She led the passage of gun safety legislation, behavioral health funding, homeless housing support, and numerous other impactful initiatives. For more than 25 years, Dr. Reynolds has served as a Pediatrician at The Children’s Clinic, a role which has greatly influenced her work in the legislature.
